This is semi-skilled and heavy manual work involving the installation, maintenance, repair, and general upkeep of water and wastewater distribution systems, meters, hydrants, lift stations, wells, and treatment plant facilities. Employee assists others within the Utilities Department. Must be capable of independently performing their duties. Employee may be required to work weekends, holidays, after-hours, and on-call duty.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety practices associated with mechanical equipment and machinery.
Knowledge of the tools, materials, machinery, and equipment used to install, maintain, and repair water mains, wastewater mains, service lines, meters, and other water and wastewater distribution system components.
Ability to learn methods used to maintain mechanical equipment within six months of employment.
Ability to physically perform assigned duties; perform heavy manual work in all weather conditions.
Ability to lift, carry, pull, push, and maneuver bulky and heavy materials; lift objects up to 75 pounds and routinely lift up to 50 pounds overhead.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with fellow employees.
Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
Training, Certification, and Experience
High School Diploma or GED.
Experience in general maintenance and repair work.
Or, an equivalent combination of training, education, and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
Special Requirements
Valid Florida driver’s license.
Valid Florida Commercial “B” driver’s license or obtain license within one-hundred eighty (180) days of employment.
Required for Water Distribution Maintenance, a Florida Water & Pollution Control Operators Association (FWPCOA) Water Distribution Class “C” Certification or obtain other water distribution certification within 18 months of employment.
Required for Water Distribution Maintenance, a Florida Department of Environmental Protection (FDEP) Level 3 Water Distribution Operator license or obtain license within two years of employment.
Required for Wastewater Collection Maintenance, a Florida Water & Pollution Control Operators Association (FWPCOA) Wastewater Collection Class “C” Certification or obtain other wastewater collection certification in 18 months.
In the event of an emergency or natural/manmade disaster, an employee may be required to respond promptly to duties and responsibilities as assigned by Emergency Management or City Administration. Such assignments may be before, during, and after an emergency or disaster.
