Manager, Business Development
The candidate will work with a group of experienced professionals in practice and industry development, regional marketing efforts, and directly with client teams. Will directly support the firm's Litigation practices (currently Antitrust/Competition; Appellate & Critical Motions; Complex Commercial Litigation; eDiscovery & Information Governance; Intellectual Property; International Arbitration; Labor & Employment; Securities Litigation; and White Collar, Regulatory Defense, and Investigations) and support the overall marketing efforts of the firm by developing and managing marketing and business development initiatives for the local office. Manage the overall marketing and business development efforts of their assigned practices and the practices' attorneys, developing and implementing key initiatives. Serve as the main point of contact for the assigned practices' attorney leadership and oversee staff implementing initiatives for their assigned practices, practice groups, and task forces within the department. Support the Senior Manager, BD with development of department-wide and intradepartmental and/or cross-practice initiatives and supervise implementation thereof, as requested. In partnership with Senior Manager, BD, oversee team's performance and annual review process, including providing coaching and professional development opportunities. Direct reports include assigned senior specialists, specialists, and coordinators. Day-to-day liaison with Directors of Practice Operations for assigned practices as to execution of BD-related initiatives. Serve as main point of contact for new laterals in assigned practices for onboarding and continued integration, including drafting and implementing an integration plan. Coordinate efforts with Talent and Firm Development leaders. Support Sr. Manager, BD on lateral recruiting projects as requested. First point of contact for internal clients for BD services relating to assigned practices. Manage day-to-day delivery of BD services (according to established standards for responsiveness, quality control, etc.) for assigned practices, etc. Collaborate with the Directors of Practice Operations and Sr. Manager, BD, and with input from the Managing Director, BD, draft and implement assigned practices' strategic plans and related initiatives. Manage creation of proposals/pitches and content for RFP responses, including drafting content for most complex and significant opportunities. Coach senior specialists and specialists on persuasive strategic writing. Collaborate with other BD team members assigned to support the firm's industry groups, client teams, and markets in identifying strategies for furthering the firm's development of those areas. Manage creation of print collateral suite and electronic content as well as experience records for assigned practices. Collaborate with Brand Marketing team on messaging, design, and visual storytelling. Manage creation of client-facing substantive materials and publications. Manage the development and execution of firm-produced events and related follow up. Manage evaluation and execution of conference and other sponsorships, ensuring that they are fully leveraged before, during, and after the event. Assess ROI and oversee related follow-up. Assign appropriate resources on team to collect relevant information for key BD systems and reporting tools, including sales opportunities, new clients and matters, and other relevant practice area data. In collaboration with Sr. Manager, BD, develop and manage portion of BD budget for assigned practices, including processing expense approvals (per finance guidelines) and ensuring pre-approvals are being submitted and expense guidelines are being followed. Make recommendation on new and unexpected expenditures. Participate in opportunity identification and tracking for assigned practices; collect metrics as to same. In conjunction with Industry teams, proactively identify news, industry developments, and trends that may present emerging areas of opportunity and actionable avenues for pursuit of new business for assigned practices, practice groups, and task forces. Collaborate with Sr. Manager, BD and Directors of Practice Operations to plan and execute BD-related practice group meetings; assist with Partners Conference and other department-wide and firm-wide meetings as requested. Collaborate with Brand Marketing, leverage all visibility-building activities for assigned practices. Support market/regional activities and/or office activities as assigned, including maintaining relationships with community organizations, overseeing local client entertainment and programming events, providing guidance and support on philanthropic activities, and liaising with office managing partner and director of administration.
