POSITION: Utility Maintenance II - Water
POSITION NO: 7.160
DEPT: UTILITIES
This is skilled, lead work in connection with the installation, maintenance, repair and general upkeep of the water distribution system, sewer collection system; lift stations, wells, hydrants, meters and treatment plant facilities. On-call, after hours, weekends, and holiday work may be required. Routine tasks are performed with considerable independence. The position involves working in a lead capacity with one or more limited skilled assistants.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Some knowledge of the proper methods of lubricating and maintaining mechanical equipment.
Ability to communicate clearly both verbally and in writing.
Ability to read blueprints and system piping maps.
Knowledge of the occupational hazards of working with mechanical machinery and equipment.
Considerable knowledge of material, tools, machinery, and equipment used to install, maintain, and repair water distribution and sewer collection systems components.
Ability to operate machinery and equipment used to maintain and repair water and sewer facilities.
Ability to perform excavating work utilizing heavy equipment.
Ability to physically perform assigned duties; perform heavy manual work in all weather conditions.
Ability to lift, carry, pull, push, and maneuver bulky and heavy materials; lift objects up to 75 pounds and routinely lift up to 50 pounds overhead.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with fellow employees.
Training, Certification, and Experience
High school diploma or GED.
Requires minimum two years of progressively responsible mechanical maintenance work involving the installation, repair, and maintenance of water distribution and sewer collection systems.
Or, an equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
Special Requirements
Valid Florida driver’s license.
Valid Florida Commercial “B” Driver’s License or ability to obtain within 90 days of employment.
Water Distribution Maintenance, a Florida Water & Pollution Control Operators Association (FWPCOA) Water Distribution Class “C” Certification, or ability to obtain other water distribution certification within one year of employment.
Water Distribution Maintenance, a Florida Department of Environmental Protection (FDEP) Level 3 Water Distribution Operator license.
Sewer Collection Maintenance, a Florida Water & Pollution Control Operators Association (FWPCOA) Wastewater Collection Class “C” Certification, or ability to obtain other wastewater collection certification within one year of employment.
