The Campaign Manager, in coordination with development colleagues and other teams, will be responsible for managing every aspect of the campaign, from volunteer coordination, to tracking systems for prospect management, to writing campaign newsletters. This position reports to the Associate General Secretary for Development (CDO).
FCNL has the largest group of registered lobbyists working for peace and justice in Washington, DC and a vibrant network of thousands of volunteer advocates across the country. To support this effort now and in the long-term future, we are planning a campaign to launch in January 2024. We are in a strategic planning process that will inform the campaign goals.
The Position
The Campaign Manager is an integral part of the Development team. The Campaign Manager will be responsible for tracking the goals, projects and other details of our five-year campaign, which is planned to start in January 2024. In coordination with development colleagues and other teams, they will be responsible for managing every aspect of the campaign, including volunteer coordination, tracking systems for prospect management, writing campaign newsletters, planning campaign events, and managing some outreach to donors. This is an exciting opportunity to manage a campaign from Campaign Study to the Quiet Phase and through the Public Phase.
The Campaign Manager reports directly to the Associate General Secretary for Development (CDO); provides campaign support to the major gifts team, the General Secretary (Executive Director), the Development Committee of the FCNL General Committee (governing body), and other staff and volunteers. The Campaign Manager will work closely with FCNLs Campaign Consultant.
The Organization
The **MEMBERS ONLY**SIGN UP NOW***. (FCNL), a nonpartisan, nonprofit 501(c)(4) organization, lobbies Congress for peace, justice, opportunity, and environmental stewardship. Founded in 1943 by members of the Religious Society of Friends (Quakers), FCNL has about 65 staff, including an expert team of 20 registered lobbyists on Capitol Hill. FCNL works with a grassroots network of more than 80,000 people to advance policies and priorities established by FCNLs General Committee (governing body).
FCNL works closely with the FCNL Education Fund and Friends Place on Capitol Hill, both 501 (c)(3) organizations. Collectively, these three are national nonprofit, nonpartisan Quaker organizations that work for legislative policy change on peace, justice, and environmental stewardship issues. We also provide advocacy training and support to a network of volunteer lobbyists.
Our national network includes people from many different faiths and backgrounds who are activists and donors. We are dedicated to growing the network, emphasizing effective relationship-building as a path to policy change.
For 80 years, FCNL has brought Quaker values to bear on national policy through congressional testimony, Capitol Hill visits, grassroots lobbying, and educational initiatives. We just finished our Forward Plan and are planning the strategic direction for the next five years, which will flow into the campaign goals. We also have a track record of successful campaigns, the most recent of which raised $17.5M from 2012-2017, exceeding the $15M goal.
Key Responsibilities
Work with the AGS for Development and campaign counsel to carry out successful Campaign Study
Maintain campaign calendar, use project planning software to track the many different operations of the campaign, identify resource bottlenecks in advance and coordinate solutions to those bottlenecks
Draft campaign progress reports and newsletters
Manage prospect tracking system
Prepare pledge materials and other packets for campaign asks, assisting the major gifts staff
Support staff who are traveling for campaign visits and events
Support the Development Committees campaign involvement
Organize volunteer assignments and follow-up, and assist in all aspects of volunteer-led events
Manage campaign acknowledgment letters and campaign pledge statements
Plan campaign events during public phase
Coordinate with development operations team to ensure that all research, gifts, pledges, visit reports, notes and sign-in sheets are properly logged in Raisers Edge.
Experience and Attributes
The Campaign Manager possesses skills and abilities that allow them to perform each essential duty efficiently and effectively. The list below is representative of the experience, knowledge, skills and/or abilities likely to be need in order to successfully perform the essential duties of the position. This is intended to be illustrative, but not exhaustive.
Three or more years experience in fundraising, including campaign experience
Exceptional project management skills
Database skills; familiarity with Raisers Edge a plus
Attention to detail, accuracy
Ability to handle multiple tasks with diverse strategic outcomes
Ability to work independently, yet cooperatively
Excellent work management skills: ability to organize, determine priorities, and follow through promptly
Knowledge and proficiency at an intermediate or higher level of the Microsoft Office suite
Good oral and written communications skills; Ability to communicate effectively with colleagues, donors, and volunteers.
Knowledge of campaigns
Experience working effectively with volunteers in fundraising
Commitment to antiracism, antibias, justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion work; proven ability to work with people from a wide range of backgrounds
Comfort working in an office environment that reflects the Quaker testimonies of peace, equality, simplicity, and truth; and working within the Quaker process of FCNL
Desire to participate in mission of FCNL; agreement with FCNLs policy positions and understanding of faith-based lobbying approach
College degree or equivalent experience
Compensation & Work Expectations
The salary range is $55,000- $75,000 depending upon experience. This is a full-time exempt position, based on a 37.5-hour workweek. Some weekend and evening work, as well as occasional travel within the United States, will be required.
This position can either be based in our Washington DC office or up to 100% remote. The employee will work with the supervisor to determine the in-office or telework arrangement. There may be times when the employee is required to come into the office for meetings, events or to complete special projects.
