Description
FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA)/RECORDS TECHNICIAN SUPPORT SPECIALIST: Position is responsible for the receipt of requests made to Beaufort County Government for public information, assessing the scope of such requests, compiling the pertinent information, and the subsequent disclosure and dissemination of that information under mandates of the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA). This position, under direct supervision and with guidance from the Legal Department, ensures that these requests are handled in accordance with relevant legislation and county policy, while considering any potential liability to the county should the requested information be released. Responsibilities also include providing support to other departmental functions such as document preparation, scanning, indexing (i.e. data entry) and quality control inspection plus the digitalization of microfilm and/or microfiche using specialized equipment/software. Clerical duties include records maintenance through proper storage, handling, inventorying, and the fulfillment of internal records requested.
Typical Qualifications
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
• Associate degree with course work in English, Business Administration, or Records Management; cross-discipline or legal research and personal computer operations, including various software applications, or any equivalent combination of education, training, and practical experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and
abilities for this job
• Must be a team player who excels in a goal-oriented, fast-paced, high-production work environment. Must be able to apply sound judgement.
• Strong written/oral communication skills and interpersonal skills with the ability to interact effectively is required. Basic computer skills, including typing 40 wpm*
• Must possess highly detailed organizational and visual skills and the ability to work consistently on tasks of a repetitive nature.
• Tasks require the ability to exert significant physical effort typically involving some combination of stooping, kneeling, crouching, lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials of weight of more than 50 lbs.
• Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license.
PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS:
• Proficiency with a high-volume document scanner, microfilm scanner, microfiche scanner and familiarity with the handling of microfilm and other related equipment.
• Experience with Adobe Acrobat or Adobe Photoshop.
• Experience with Microsoft’s Windows, Office, and Outlook software.
