A law firm in Philadelphia, PA is seeking a Junior Biotech IP Patent Agent to enhance its intellectual property practice. This role is ideal for a candidate with a robust technical background in biological sciences and a commitment to delivering exceptional client service. The successful candidate will have a Ph.D. in a relevant field and be registered to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, with experience in patent prosecution and IP due diligence.

Duties:

  • Draft and prosecute patent applications focused on biotech and life sciences technologies.
  • Conduct intellectual property (IP) due diligence and freedom-to-operate (FTO) analyses.
  • Collaborate with clients to understand their innovations and provide strategic IP counsel.
  • Prepare and file patent applications, responses to office actions, and other necessary documentation.
  • Analyze competitors' patents and relevant scientific literature.
  • Assist in managing patent portfolios and developing IP strategies for clients.
  • Support attorneys in litigation and other IP-related activities.
  • Stay informed on industry trends, patent law developments, and advances in biological sciences.

Requirements:

  • Ph.D. in Biology, Molecular Biology, Cell Biology, Biochemistry, Immunology, or a related discipline.
  • Registered to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO).
  • 3+ years of experience drafting and prosecuting patent applications.
  • Desirable: Experience in a law firm and conducting IP due diligence and FTO analyses.
  • Strong academic credentials with a solid technical background.

Education:

  • Ph.D. in Biology, Molecular Biology, Cell Biology, Biochemistry, Immunology, or a related discipline.

Certifications:

  • Registered to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO).

Skills:

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Outstanding organizational abilities and attention to detail.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficient in patent prosecution and IP portfolio management.
