Job Title: SIU Litigation Attorney

Job Overview:

A law firm located in Melville, NY, is seeking a litigation attorney with a minimum of four years of relevant experience to support its Special Investigations Unit (SIU). The role involves defending against suspected fraudulent insurance claims and initiating complex litigation, including affirmative actions. Ideal for professionals passionate about uncovering fraud in the insurance domain, this opportunity blends investigative litigation, civil defense, and strategic negotiation.

Duties:

• Collaborate with SIU teams to evaluate and defend against questionable claims

• Draft and litigate fraud-based actions, including those under RICO and related statutes

• Develop and implement case strategies tailored to complex insurance matters

• Manage discovery processes, including propounding discovery and drafting legal memoranda

• Conduct and defend depositions, including Examinations Under Oath (EUOs)

• Represent clients in arbitrations, mediations, and court proceedings (state and federal)

• Draft and argue pre- and post-trial motions in various jurisdictions

• Negotiate and document settlements with opposing parties

• Handle claims related to bodily injury (BI), uninsured motorist (UM), trucking/transportation, labor law, first-party property, PIP, and workers' compensation

Requirements:

• Minimum of 4 years’ litigation experience, preferably in insurance defense or fraud litigation

• Prior experience handling RICO or other affirmative actions is a strong advantage

• Familiarity with insurance fraud schemes and investigation techniques

• Demonstrated ability to handle high-volume, fast-paced caseloads independently

Education:

• Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school

Certifications:

• Admission to the New York State Bar

• Additional federal court admissions are preferred

Skills:

• Exceptional legal research and writing abilities

• Strong analytical and investigative skills

• Effective oral advocacy in both motion practice and trials

• Skilled in case strategy, negotiation, and litigation management

• Ability to communicate and collaborate with various stakeholders, including SIU personnel and expert witnesses
